	Priest Accused of Abuse under Investigation By Chicago Public Radio Lynette Kalsnes January 8, 2010 http://www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=39230 A Joliet area priest accused of abuse remains hospitalized after jumping off the balcony of a boarded-up church. The priest attempted suicide when investigators were on their way to interview him about allegations that he had abused a boy. Bishop J. Peter Sartain publicly apologized to the boy and his family for their pain. Diocesan spokesman Doug Delaney says the priest is a Bolivian native who had just been ordained last summer. DELANEY: Priests go through an extensive psychological backgrounds, and it was just shock and amazement is what I guess I could say, we've been in shock here for the whole week. Delaney says there were no prior allegations. He called the whole situation a tragedy. He says the boy's family reported the abuse Sunday night. The next morning, the bishop removed the priest from the parish and the priesthood and notified law enforcement. The Kane County State's Attorney says the investigation continues.
