SUSPECT has admitted to the crime

A 55-year-old ZCC pastor has been arrested for allegedly raping one of his congregants.

The pastor, of Rietvallie in Kagiso, was arrested yesterday morning after a 30-year-old woman had laid a charge of rape against him.

Police spokesperson Inspector Solomon Sibiya said the incident happened on December 23 last year.

"The women claims that the leaders of the congregation allegedly confronted the pastor and the suspect admitted to the crime"

"The woman alleges that she was not able to conceive, so she and her husband went to the pastor for assistance," said Sibiya.

"When they arrived at the pastor's place he requested the husband to leave so that he could perform a ritual on the woman.

"The woman says the pastor then requested her to take off her clothes.

"He allegedly rubbed an ointment on her body before forcing himself on her.

"The woman claims that she cried for help but nobody was around to rescue her."

Sibiya said that after the alleged rape, the woman said that the pastor insisted that she should take a bath.

"She then went home and told her husband. They later went to the church elders to inform them about the rape," Sibiya said

"The women claims that the leaders of the congregation allegedly confronted the pastor and the suspect admitted to the crime."

The pastor is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp magistrate's court today.
