BOSTON -- A former Boston priest convicted of raping a child was denied his request for a new trial.

Today, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld the victim's claim of recovering repressed memories.

Paul Shanley said the judge at his 2005 trial should not have allowed prosecutors to present evidence of repressed and recovered memories, and he questioned why the victim waited 20 years to report the sexual abuse.

Shanley is serving a 12 to 15 year sentence.
