CHICAGO (IL) -- The debate continues over whether a former Catholic priest on Chicago's South Side convicted of sexual abuse should be committed for treatment.

Daniel McCormack served more than two years in prison for sexually abusing five boys. He's eligible for release, but prosecutors want him declared a sexually violent person so he'll be committed indefinitely.

Julia Bledsoe is a member of the parish where McCormack abused the boys.

BLEDSOE: He's not getting help. He's not getting treatment. So how could a judge possibly let him out if he's not going to receive treatment?

Mental health experts told the judge yesterday there's a risk McCormack will re-offend, but they disagreed on how big that risk is. One of the experts pointed out McCormack continued abusing a boy even after he was under police investigation.

The Cook County judge ruled there's enough evidence for a trial to decide if McCormack qualifies as a sexually violent person.
