  Priest Charged in Sexual Assault of St. Charles Child

St. Charles, IL — A Shorewood priest has been charged with sexually assaulting a St. Charles child over five years starting in 2005.

Alejandro Flores, 37, of the 600 block of Brook Forest Ave. Shorewood, has been charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, two counts of sexual assualt and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Authorities allege that between Jan. 1 of 2005 and Jan. 1 of 2010, Flores was alleged to have had sexual contact with a St. Charles minor who was younger than 13 when the alleged sexual contact began.

A warrant for Flores' arrest was issued on Jan. 15 of this year. Circuit Judge Thomas E. Mueller set Flores' bail at $1 million. He was taken into custody today by Joliet police and transferred to the custody of the Kane County Sheriff's Department. Flores will be held in the Kane County jail.

Flores is expected to appear in bond court at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in courtroom 217 in front of Associate Judge James C. Hallock.

If Flores posts bond, he must surrender his passport to authorities, he is prohibited from having contact with the victim and the victim's family and he is prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 17. If he is convicted of all counts, he may face up to 67 years in jail.

Flores was a seminarian assigned to St. Mary's Parish in West Chicago. He was later assigned to Holy Family Parish in Shorewood and ordained a priest in summer of 2009.
