TENNESEE -- A Clarksville man pleaded guilty to assaulting and raping a woman in June 2009 on Tuesday in Judge John H. Gasaway's court.

Montrell Vene Ealum, 20, who was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $50,000 bond, was charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.

Ealum entered a guilty plea to aggravated rape and received a 15-year sentence to serve with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

The aggravated kidnapping charge was dismissed in settlement, according to court records.

On June 20, a woman reported Ealum choked and raped her. Ealum admitted he choked the woman and forced her to have sex with him, according to a police warrant by Detective Ronald Parrish.

The woman suffered severe bruising to her neck and severe trauma to both eyes, according to the warrant.

Man charged with raping child

An Oak Grove, Ky., man was arrested Tuesday after being served with a sealed indictment on allegations he raped a child.

Wayne John Coates, 43, is accused of raping a girl less than 13 years old on several occasions between August 2005 and September 2008.

Coates is charged with 10 counts of rape of a child. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Coates was indicted by the grand jury in December.

Additional sex charge for former minister

Jonathan Tyler Giles, former youth minister at Spring Creek Baptist Church, was served an additional count of sexual abuse by an authority figure Tuesday when he appeared in Judge John H. Gasaway's courtroom.

Giles, 25, was arrested on June 24 on allegations he sent inappropriate text messages and engaged in sexual activities with minors. The new sealed count alleges Giles had sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl between May 8 and May 12 and used his status to accomplish the act.

Giles, who gave a Wartburg, Tenn., address, was booked in the Montgomery County Jail on Tuesday, but not held on additional bond.
