Eyewitness News has learnt Reverend Paul Verryn has been suspended as head of the Central Methodist Church in downtown Johannesburg.

Verryn was criticised in recent months for not doing enough to deal with allegations of sexual abuse of children at the mission.

Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, Ivan Abrahams said details of the suspension could not be revealed because the matter was sub judice.

“The process from here is that a charge has been laid, it is an internal process. He will be suspended until that process has run its course.”
