SOUTH AFRICA -- Eyewitness News understands suspended Methodist Church Reverend Paul Verryn is facing two charges for defying instructions from the presiding Bishop Ivan Abrahams.

The church announced that he will no longer look after the interests of the mission.

Last year, Eyewitness News revealed that children were prostituting themselves at the church to survive but Verryn's suspension is not related to that.

Sources have told Eyewitness News one of the charges against Verryn is for defying an order not to talk to the media about the crisis at the Johannesburg CBD mission.

The other is for bringing an application in the South Gauteng High Court for a curator for children at the church.

The presiding bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa told Eyewitness News at the time that Verryn had acted unilaterally.
