Friends and supporters are rallying around suspended Central Methodist Church Bishop Paul Verryn.

Verryn was suspended last week on charges of disobeying instructions from church leaders.

This is the second scandal to hit the church in recent months.

A year-long investigation by Eyewitness News revealed children were allegedly being forced to prostitute themselves in order to survive.

Verryn is due to face an internal disciplinary hearing a week from Monday but the controversial reverend has indicated he is not going without a fight.

He said the charges against him stemmed from a dispute with the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, Ivan Abrahams but the church denied this, saying the instruction to charge and suspend him came from the church’s leadership.

Verryn asked for the inquiry to be postponed.
