WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) ? A bankruptcy judge has set a trial date in a dispute over the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington's request to pay retirement benefits to six priests who are confirmed pedophiles.

The diocese has asked the bankruptcy court for authorization to provide pensions, housing costs and medical coverage to six confirmed child abusers. The diocese says it has an obligation to care for retired clergy, including priests dismissed from public ministry and facing laicization, or defrocking.

The diocese's creditors committee, representing alleged victims of abuse, has objected to the request.

The judge on Friday ordered the diocese to respond to the objections by Tuesday, and he set a trial date of Feb. 22.
