Today Christine Buckley spoke about her dismay following the Pope’s statement and described it as a charade.

The Pope told Irish Bishops that paedophilia is a “heinous crime” and the church must address the problem “with resolve”. However, no papal apology for the survivors of clerical and institutional sex abuse here was included in the statement.

The Pontiff’s two day meeting with Irelands 24 Bishops to discuss clerical sex abuse has just ended.

They apparently spoke “frankly” of the sense of pain and anger, betrayal, scandal and shame expressed to them on numerous occasions by those who had been abused.

The Bishops also pledged their co-operation with civil authorities.

The Holy Father also claimed a more general crisis of faith affecting the Church was linked to the lack of respect for the human person , adding a weakening of faith had been a significant contributing factor in the phenomenon of the sexual abuse of minors.

Benedict 16th will now address a pastoral letter which will read from pulpits across the country during Lent.

Have a listen…
