IRELAND -- Bishop of Galway Dr Martin Drennan has repeated that he will not be resigning from office, despite calls from victims of clerical abuse for him to step down.

He told RTÉ News that he did not want to offend the victims.

Martin Drennan - Thinks resignations would not help the healing process

However, he said he did not think that resignations helped the healing process and he was determined to continue his work in the dioceses.

Bishop Drennan said the Church was going through a difficult time and it would be a betrayal of the people of Galway if he were to resign.

He said he had the courage to stay in office and he believed that was the right thing for him to do.

He said there was nothing in the Murphy report that suggested he should and he was clear in his own conscience that he had done nothing wrong.
