A priest in southern Germany has become the second cleric to resign in three days over the sex abuse scandal involving Jesuit priests rocking the Catholic Church, the bishopric of Munich said Friday.

Maurus Krass, head of the monastic school in Ettal, southern Germany, resigned for failing to inform clerical authorities over child sex abuse accusations dating from 2003 and 2005, a statement said.

On Wednesday another priest from Ettal, Barnabas Bogle, also resigned for the same reasons.

The latest resignation by Krauss comes as the German Episcopal conference put Stephan Ackermann, bishop of Trier, in charge of investigating the scandal that has shaken the country's Catholic Church for a month.

Ackermann said Friday he would follow "with determination" all clues linked to the child abuse committed by members of the church.

The scandal began in January when an elite Jesuit school in Berlin admitted the systematic sexual abuse of its pupils by two Roman Catholic priests in the 1970s and 1980s.

Earlier this month a priest and college rector in Bonn resigned over the case.

An independent investigator hired by the Jesuit order said that so far around 120 people had come forward alleging abuse.
