SAN FRANCISCO (CA) -- The Survivor's Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) in the United States is watching with dismay as more and more victims come forward in Europe.

"In Ireland and Germany, the Netherlands, even in the Vatican City itself."

Melanie Sakoda refers to allegations that Pope Benedict years ago protected a pedophile priest, charges that the Vatican flatly denied.

"What you need is government intervention in these cases that people should be reporting to the police, not to the church."

Wayne Presley says clergy abuse victims have a really tough time.

"I think people are reluctant to come forward because of the welcome that we're afforded by the church and unfortunately by parishioners. They call the victims liars."

Sakoda hopes European victims do more than just report wrong doing to the church, which she says would not do a thorough investigation.
