IRELAND -- Pressure is growing on the Cardinal Sean Brady to step down in the wake of weekend revelations.

It emerged yesterday that in 1975, the Cardinal, then a priest, interviewed two of convicted sex offender Fr Brendan Smyth's victims, who were asked to take an oath of secrecy.

It was another 20 years before Smyth pleaded guilty to 74 charges of abusing children between 1958 and 1993.

Cardinal Brady has rejected calls for his resignation.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, abuse survivor Andrew Madden said he's not suprised by what's emerged and he believes it's indicative of the 'cover-up culture' that's pervaded every diocese in the country where incidents of abuse occured.
