INDIA, New Delhi -- A priest was arrested in the national capital for allegedly raping a 30-year-old mentally unstable woman in south Delhi last month, a senior police official said today.

Santosh Kumar Tiwari (38), a priest at a temple in Pushp Vihar, was arrested from Saket yesterday for allegedly raping the woman on February 4, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

The accused was manhandled by the victim's brother before he was apprehended by police.

"Tiwari was manhandled by the victim's brother when we reached the spot. When we probed the matter, it came to our notice that Tiwari was accused of raping the girl at his house 45 days ago," Dhaliwal said.

He said the incident came to light when the girl informed her family but soon the priest went underground.
