THOUGH full of admiration for the Primate of All Ireland, outspoken cleric Fr Iggy O'Donov an says if he was in the same position as Cardinal Sean Brady, he would have no other choice but to step down. 'I'm not going to start shouting for him to resign, but I do feel that if I found myself in his shoes, I would have to leave the post,' said the Augustinian. 'Sean Brady is a champion of child protection, and has brought the level of protection for children to an alltime high in Ireland, however, any form of contamination is deadly, and Fr Iggy says that when it comes to the subject of child abuse, 'there is no room for wriggle room or compromise'. 'We can nod or wink when it comes to something like dodging tax, but this is a moral absolute.' Of course, he adds, the decision to step down is entirely up to the Cardinal, and he can't be forced. 'I feel sorry for him because essentially I feel he is a decent man, but dealing with the subject of clerical sex abuse can be like wrestling an octopus; just when you think you have pinned everything down, another tentacle comes up somewhere else.'
