ZAMBIA -- A 13-year-old Grade five pupil at Mazabuka Basic School has been defiled, infected with a sexually transmitted disease and impregnated by a 70-year-old pastor from a named pentecostal church.

Police, Forum for African Women Education of Zambia (FEWEZA) school chairperson, Gloria Muchindu and deputy school manager, Stanley Muchimba confirmed the development to ZANIS in Mazabuka and described the development as the worst, barbaric and inhuman sexual scandal.

Muchimba said the school administration was shocked particularly that a man of God, who was supposed to be a guardian of morality, could sexually abuse a minor and ruin her life completely.

And Muchindu has demanded for an honest explanation from Mazabuka police on why the family of the abused girl was being asked to hire a taxi when the police had adequate transport to pick the culprit.

Muchindu said it was unfair and wrong for the police to make such prohibitive demands from the family, which was poor.

''Why does the police want the family to hire a taxi? Can't they see that the family is poor and cannot afford to hire a taxi? Do they want the case to rot while the young girl's life has been ruined by the old man? What is the use of police then if they cannot assist the poor in the community? This girl needs to be counselled," said Muchindu.

She urged police to immediately arrest the suspect whom she described as a beast who should not be allowed to interact with the community.

Muchindu said it was sad to learn that the pastor last Sunday again sexually abused the girl after church service after luring her to his house in Kabobola Township.

And the abused girl's aunts, Maureen Chanda and Ireen Tembo, said the named pastor lured their niece after giving her K 20,000.

They narrated that the pastor who had been summoned by their mother agreed and pleaded with the family not to report the matter to police as he feared that he would be arrested.

They explained that the pastor pledged to compensate the family a K 1 million after getting house rentals from his tenants, which the family rejected.

Tembo and Chanda further revealed that the case was reported to A Safer Zambia (ASAZA) but failed to assist them hence reporting it to Mazabuka police five days ago.

They complained that since police asked them to hire a taxi last Tuesday, they had failed to find money hence going back to report to police of their challenges.

Efforts to get a comment from Mazabuka district police chief, Lizzy Machina failed as she was reportedly out of office on official duties in Magoye.
