Two men and two women representing the US-based Survivor Network of those Abused by Priests handed out leaflets near St Peter’s Square before being detained by Italian police. They were later released. Barbara Blaine, president of SNAP, called on Pope Benedict to open up the files of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican department that handles cases of child abuse and was headed by the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger from 1981 until he became pontiff in 2005.
