MILWAUKEE (WI) -- It's Holy Week, the week including Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki has to give his Holy Week message amidst claims of a Vatican cover-up of sex abuse of children by a priest here.

"It's a shame."

So said Listecki on 620WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."

He mentioned that he doesn't believe the Vatican had involvement of a cover-up in the case.

"They have been so supportive of the American norms, the Dallas charter, going forward with the healing. I cannot believe that there would be any attempted cover-up, although individuals will want to make that kind of assessment," explained Listecki.

Among those individuals are members of the Survivors Network for those abused by priests. They were set to give their thoughts on the subject Monday at a news conference.

Listecki did say they're gathering more information on what happened when the case went to the Vatican.

"We are consistently learning, and we are consistently understanding the gravity of the situation," explained Listecki.

He also described the damage claims of a cover up can do to the Catholic Church.

"What this does is try to paralyze the Church from continuing on to try to do the good and try to do the reparation that's necessary."
