	Group Says Mccann Should Have Prosecuted Priest By Marti Mikkelson WUWM March 31, 2010 http://www.wuwm.com/programs/news/view_news.php?articleid=5980 An advocacy group for victims of clergy abuse says former Milwaukee District Attorney E. Michael McCann knew that a priest was molesting boys, and didn't file charges. Peter Isely, of the group Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, says the Rev. Lawrence Murphy admitted to the Archdiocese in 1958 that he was assaulting kids at the School for the Deaf in St. Francis. He says students brought their cases to McCann in 1974 and claims the district attorney helped the Archdiocese cover up the scandal. "The church and him shared in my opinion a common understanding that priests don't get prosecuted," Isely says. McCann says the crimes were reported after the six year statute of limitations had lapsed. But Isely says one victim found a letter he submitted to McCann in 1974, detailing abuse from four years earlier.
