Josef Ratzinger - Vicar of Christ

The head of the Church of Rome is facing the worst child sex abuse scandal to sweep the Catholic church ever. In response to revelations of his involvement, the Bishop of Rome said his faith in God leads him "towards the courage of not allowing oneself to be intimidated by the petty gossip of dominant opinion."

This is religious hypocrisy and selfish hubris at its worst.

The pontiff is under attack since it was revealed that he had been directly and personally involved with two different cases of mass child rape.

In the first case, a German priest already in therapy for pedophilia was returned to work with children with Ratzinger's OK.

In the second case, Ratzinger was a senior Vatican official when his deputy stopped a church trial against a Wisconsin priest accused of raping disabled children in his care.

Father Lawrence Murphy showed no remorse and suffered no punishment from Ratzinger, repeatedly raped and sexually exploited as many as 200 deaf and disabled children between 1950 and 1974.

Three successive bishops of Milwaukee were told that Murphy was sexually exploiting young children, and although his crimes were common knowledge, nothing was done. High church officials including Ratzinger prevented a criminal investigation and prosecution of their employee who was committing felony crimes during working hours against disabled children under his care.

Murphy was said to have granted his victims absolution for sexual sins in which he had taken part. Fr. Murphy died in 1998.

Any other organization but the Catholic Church would be under serious criminal investigation over its policies and actions.

New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan actually compared the pope to Jesus, saying Ratzinger was "suffering some of the same unjust accusations, shouts of the mob and scourging at the pillar," and "being daily crowned with thorns by groundless innuendo."

There was no mention of the thousands of young lives ruined, and no indictment of those responsible. Although pedophilia is a felony crime, no one has held Ratzinger to account for conspiring in a massive cover-up rather than defending the children under his charge by notifying the police.

Ratzinger himself would be detained if law enforcement were involved - which is why it won't be. Ratzinger is the head of a religion and also a head of a state, the Vatican.

So instead of being investigated, he is portrayed as the victim and HIS suffering compared with Jesus'.

It really makes one want to ask, "how many children did Jesus molest?"
