The 48-year-old was arrested on Friday over allegations he assaulted a boy at a convent at Maitland in the NSW Hunter region in the 1980s. He has been charged with indecent assault and committing an act of indecency on a person aged under 16 years. He has been granted bail on the matters and is due to face Newcastle Local Court on May 5. Prior to Friday's arrest the priest was facing 20 child sex charges for which he will next face Newcastle Local Court on June 16. A strike force established in 2008 to investigate allegations of child sex offences in the region made the arrest on Friday.
