Astoria, Ore. (AP) - A state investigation has found insufficient evidence to justify criminal action against a parish priest accused of mishandling money.

The state attorney general's office wrote in a letter that the Rev. Ted Prentice made "poor decisions" about finances for St. Mary Star of the Sea parish in Astoria but that he had the legal authority to do so.

The letter announcing the probe's outcome was sent to the Clatsop County prosecutor.

Prentice came under scrutiny for his handling of finances in the parish. He eventually resigned from his Astoria post and was reassigned.
