MILWAUKEE (AP) - A priest who investigated sexual-abuse allegations against another Milwaukee priest 12 year ago is apologizing after a new document contradicted his account of events.

The Rev. Thomas Brundage was involved in church judicial proceedings against the Rev. Lawrence Murphy in the late 1990s. The case has drawn renewed scrutiny with the release of documents suggesting that a Vatican office led by the cardinal who is now pope failed to aggressively discipline Murphy.

Brundage wrote a March 29 article disputing media reports that he had been ordered to freeze the judicial process.

But new documents that were first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show he penned a rough draft of the very letter saying he had been instructed to abate the process.

Brundage apologized Friday, saying he misremembered something that happened so long ago.
