Switzerland's Roman Catholic church said Saturday it was going ahead with a poster campaign under the slogan "More Good News", with changes because of the recent sex abuse scandal rocking the clergy.

Walter Mueller, a spokesman for the Swiss Bishops Conference, said the campaign ("Mehr Good News" in German) for May 16, a Sunday traditionally set aside to promote the role of Catholic media, was aimed primarily at parishes.

"The material... will be slightly adapted, we're doing that over the coming days, that's why the material will be delivered with a slight delay over our schedule," he told AFP.

The campaign also appears on the Internet: http://www.mediensonntag.ch/2010/index.php

The slogan was fixed last November, before the latest allegations of sexual abuse by priests in Europe and North America emerged, Mueller said.

But changes were decided in recent weeks to take into account public dismay over the scandals and give greater context to the message, emphasising the role of parishioners and charitable works.

"Good news means that one shouldn't simply forget the bad news but do good deeds," Mueller explained.

"Now that there is bad news for the Church we have to work at changing the situation and creating reasons for good news."

"Good news" refers to the Gospel, the core texts of the New Testament and Roman Catholic teachings.

The latest scandals have also directly affected the clergy in Switzerland. Swiss bishops admitted to mistakes recently, saying they had underestimated the extent of sexual abuse by priests and calling on victims to seek prosecution.
