April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Pope Benedict XVI is likely to meet with victims of sexual abuse by priests when he visits the Mediterranean island of Malta this weekend, ANSA news agency reported, citing Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi.

While no meetings are on the pope's official agenda, he is likely to visit with victims privately "in a climate of prayer and reflection, not under media pressure," Lombardi was quoted by ANSA as saying today at the Vatican.

Benedict, who will visit Malta on April 17-18, is struggling to contain damage to the Catholic Church's reputation amid a flood of sexual-abuse allegations against clerics in the U.S., Europe and Latin America.
