Nsac Asks the Knights of Columbus: Where Is the Concern for the Survivors?

National Survivor Advocate Coalition
April 14, 2010

http://www.nsacoalition.org/

The National Survivor Advocates Coalition (NSAC) has a full appreciation of the value of prayer and respectfully raises this question to the Knights of Columbus: When will the Knights and their chaplain Bishop William Lori promote a novena for the survivors of sexual abuse by priests and nuns?

The coalition notes with interest that the Knights are in the middle of a novena for Pope Benedict and are providing a prayer card to encourage prayers for the Pope. The novena began April 11 and concludes April 19.

On the Knights' website, there is a video of Bishop Lori saying the prayer for the Pope.

NSAC urges the Knights of Columbus as strong pro-life supporters, to recognize the life issue that is sexual abuse and use their considerable influence in the Church to promote not only prayer but justice for the survivors.

In promoting the novena, the Knights of Columbus request prayers for the Pope during what the Knights describe " as a time of considerable challenge."

NSAC called upon the Knights as fathers and grandfathers to remember the "considerable challenge" the victims of sexual abuse by priests and nuns shoulder each day of their lives.

NSAC offers the following prayer for distribution by the Knights:

Prayer for the Survivors and Those Who Did Not Survive

Good and gentle Shepherd,

Sweet Spirit of God,

Creator divine

In Your infinite tenderness comfort the survivors of sexual abuse by Roman Catholic clergy.

Deliver them from sorrow,

anoint them with hope,

sustain them with the Body of Christ.

Take to Your Sacred Heart those who have committed suicide.

Make of us ambassadors of Your justice,

Your lifting of the oppressed and Your desire for all of us to live and move and have our being in Your abundant grace.

~

Amen

Novena for Pope Benedict XVI

All Knights of Columbus are encouraged to join in a special novena for Pope Benedict XVI, beginning Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11, and concluding Monday, April 19, the fifth anniversary of the Holy Father's election in 2005.

We pray for the pope and for his pastoral mission, asking God to protect, strengthen and uplift our beloved Holy Father at this time of considerable challenge.

An initial supply of prayer cards has been sent to state officers, district deputies, grand knights and council chaplains in the United States. Additional quantities of holy cards (#16000) can be ordered using a requisition form (#1) and billed to the requesting unit as long as it is signed by an authorized officer. Supplies are available in packs of 100 cards. The first pack of 100 cards ordered by a council, assembly or circle will be free.

Subsequent packs cost $3 each to offset standard shipping and handling costs. Individuals — members and non-members — can also order quantities for $3 per pack of 100 cards by calling 1-203-752-4451 and providing credit card information (MasterCard or Visa).

Because of the delay associated with international mail, members outside the United States are encouraged to download the PDF document that will enable convenient local reproduction.

Please spread the word about this novena and invite others in your parish and community to take part in it as well.

PRAYER FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI

Lord, source of eternal life and truth,

give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit

of courage and right judgment, a spirit

of knowledge and love. By governing

with fidelity those entrusted to his care,

may he, as successor to the Apostle

Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your

Church into a sacrament of unity, love

and peace for all the world. Amen.

V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.

R/ May the Lord preserve him,

give him a long life,

make him blessed upon the earth,

and not hand him over

to the power of his enemies.

V/ May your hand

be upon your holy servant.

R/ And upon your son,

whom you have anointed.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
