Parishioners are still backing him after a deposition released a few years ago, revealed that Father Scahill knew about Father Lavigne molesting children in the early 1990s. Scahill didn't act on it. Scahill says he still has the right to call for the Pope's resignation after the global sex abuse scandal. "You can't be the church of Christ if you aren't testifying truthfully because Christ is truth. And there's no way this could have gone on globally without the Vatican being aware," Pastor James Scahill of St. Michael's Parish. Scahill also has the support of sexual abuse advocates. "I appreciate what's he's done for the last eight years. How he's provided an anchor for survivors and a place, a safe haven," said Director Peter Pollard of SNAP. Scahill has received criticism for his bold comments, but believes that proper action will be taken in the church.
