A Chilean prosecutor launched an investigation on April 22 into whether Father Fernando Karadima Farina, a revered 80-year-old priest, sexually abused five men. A leader in the Catholic Action movement, Father Karadima, who helped train five of the nation’s bishops, stands accused of abusing young men while hearing their confessions.

Earlier in the week, the Chilean hierarchy issued an apology to all victims of clerical sexual abuse.
