They're calling on Lincoln's Catholic Bishop to make a change. The group Call to Action Nebraska wants the Lincoln Catholic Diocese to take part in something every other Diocese in the country is already doing.

But some people say, the church is already doing enough. In 2002, the US Council of Bishops laid out a plan to protect children from abuse in the Catholic Church. Lincoln's diocese is the only one not to adopt the standards. And one group tells us it's time for that to change.

Call to Action President Rachel Pokora, leads the protest, outside of the Catholic Chancery, against the Lincoln Catholic Diocese. "It's an issue because these are the children and the abuse it just ruins lives," Pokora said.

178 Catholic Diocese in America. The Diocese here in Lincoln, the only one which doesn't participate in a voluntary annual audit of sex abuse data. The group says they're not accusing anyone of abuse. But followers like Jim McSane tell me all complaints must be made public.

"It's not enough to say I care about children and I'm gonna take care of them the taking care of children must be transparent it must be visible and it must be accessible to outside view," McShane said.

Just across the sidewalk from the Call to Action group, were people like Mary Quintero who back the church, Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, and their methods at preventing abuse. "We love our Bishop and our Bishop is all here for the protection of children he is the shepherd of our Diocese we love him and support him," Quintero said.

Diocese spokesman Father Nicholas Kipper, assures us, there are policies in place to prevent abuse. And he says proper measures are taken to prevent it from ever happening. "There are very thorough background checks for all people who are employed by or volunteer in those diocesan program that involve young people," Father Kipper said.

Father Kipper did also tell us, if there is any accusation of abuse, they encourage the victim to go to the police first and then the Chancery.
