A man will appear in court later this month charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage boy 33 years ago.

In October 2009 police attached to Hornsby Local Area Command commenced an investigation into allegations that a former 57-year-old church youth group leader had attended the home of a 13-year-old Pymble boy and allegedly sexually assaulted him in late 1981.

nOn Wednesday 7 October 2009, a 57-year-old North Sydney man was arrested and charged with buggery. He was granted bail and will appear at Sydney District Court on Monday 17 May 2010.

Investigations are continuing and Hornsby Police have now formed Strike Force Osmond.

Police will allege a second male recently reported a number of alleged incidents that occurred from 1979-1980 when the man was aged 13.

A 57-year-old North Sydney man attended Hornsby Police Station today where he was charged with one count of indecent assault and three charges of buggery.

He has been granted conditional bail and will appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 26 May 2010.

"Strike Force Osmond is continuing investigations into allegations of sexual abuse at the church youth group in the St Ives area in the late 1970's and early 1980's," Detective Inspector Michael Banfield, Crime Manager, Kuring Gai Local Area Command said.

"During our inquiries we have obtained numerous statements from a number of people who have assisted with our investigation."

"I encourage anyone with any information to come forward and discuss the matter with officers. Police understand that it can be difficult to discuss such matters, but I would reassure anyone with information that a phone call to police will be dealt with in the strictest confidence," said D/Insp Banfield.
