Attempts to agree on a neutral third party to act as a mediator and establish procedures for alternative dispute resolution in the bankruptcy of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington have reached an impasse, according to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher S. Sontchi.

To help reach an agreement, Sontchi has enlisted fellow bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross to meet with the interested parties.

"In other words, I have asked Judge Gross to mediate whether the parties will actually mediate," Sontchi wrote in a letter filed Monday.

When Gross reports on his progress in 30 days, Sontchi said, he will decide how to proceed.
