Sen. John Gleason left his hometown of Flushing Sunday afternoon for a walk to Lansing. The Democratic state lawmaker is making the approximately 50-mile walk to the state Capitol to draw attention to a piece of legislation.

The legislation would extend the statute of limitations for filing civil suits related to sex crimes against children. Gleason says he also wants to extend limits for filing criminal charges.

He says he is walking for the families of victims.

"They've been putting up with sexual assault on their young ones. I've tried myself legislatively and personally to advance the cause of the families," says Gleason.

The legislation he is supporting would extend the statute of limitations to up to 30 years. A two-year window would be provided to file suits if that timeframe has expired.
