A priest, who is facing charges of sexually abusing three sisters from the same Fermanagh family, has strenuously denied the allegations in court.

Father Eugene Lewis was giving evidence for the first time at his trial at Omagh Crown Court.

He is accused of abusing the sisters at their home in the 1960s and 70s when they were little girls.

They told the court that Fr Lewis, who was a senior member of the White Fathers Order in Blacklion in Co Cavan, would cross the border for visits.

The women, who cannot be identified, claim it was during these visits that he would abuse them while reading bedtime stories.

When asked if he ever committed any sexual offences against the then-young girls Fr. Lewis replied: "No, absolutely not."

He described the allegations as "strange" and said they were "totally untrue".

The case continues.
