CLEVELAND (AP) — A national group that tracks clergy sexual abuse cases says the Cleveland Roman Catholic diocese has the nation's worst record for identifying suspect priests.

BishopAccountability.org on Friday demanded that Bishop Richard Lennon release more names.

The group points out that a 2004 report from the diocese said 118 clerics had been accused of sex abuse since 1950. But it claims newspaper stories, court records and police reports identify only 45 Cleveland area priests who were publicly accused of sexual offenses over the last 50 years.

Diocese spokesman Robert Tayek declined to explain why other alleged offenders were not named. In a statement, he says the diocese believes no one under any reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing is still in active ministry.
