Three of the men the Vatican decided to send to investigate the Irish church's hushing up of child abuse are themselves linked to doing pretty much the same thing.

Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, as the bishop of Arundel and Brighton elected to shuffle paedo-priest Friar Michael Hill to the Gatwick airport in 1985. Funny thing is this is the same Michael Hill he had taken out of the ministry for allegations that the guy was having the wrong kind of fun with the kiddies. Hill was convicted of kiddy fiddling in 2002.

Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people, and hallelujah is our song." - Pope Giovanni Paolo II

Gee with a background like that; I am sure he will be just bursting to throw the book at Sean Brady, the guy who had kids signing secrecy agreements as he did pretty much the same thing.

The district attorney of Fall River Massecheusits was so disgusted at the next guy on our list not releasing the names of paedo priests that he did it himself. Cardinal Sean "Why should I worry if your kids get molested?" O'Malley. I am certain he will treat the decades long institutionalised abuse in the work houses with utmost gravity.

And finally we have that splendid chap, Timothy Dolan, who let a priest sue his victim in St Louis and lobbied against reforming sex abuse laws in Wisconsin. Real champion of the children there.

I can't take credit for this of course, that goes to Ophelia Benson's excellent cure for low blood pressure – Butterflies and Wheels – but I can say this:

Anybody who thinks that that child molester by proxy the Pope cares about child abuse? Look at who he sends to investigate it.
