CORNER BROOK, NL, June 2 /CNW/ - Today Bishop Douglas Crosby, Bishop of the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, confirmed that an alleged case of sexual misconduct by a former priest of the diocese has been referred to the RCMP for investigation.

Following the lead of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Diocese has established protocols in place to ensure the prompt and proper response when allegations of sexual misconduct are made. The protocols, overseen and coordinated by the diocesan Sexual Misconduct Committee, were followed faithfully including referring the complainant to a dedicated phone line established by the Diocese, an immediate response to the complainant's call by the Bishop's Delegate to the Sexual Misconduct Committee and the sharing of all available information with the Deer Lake RCMP.

As the case is now under investigation by the RCMP no further statements will be issued by the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, Bishop Crosby or the Sexual Misconduct Committee.
