De Telegraaf says Mother Theresa Brenninkmeijer is alleged to have abused nuns at a convent in Sostrup, northeast Denmark, and covered up the death of an elderly sister who was locked out in the cold without proper clothing because she disturbed a mass.

Although the woman's death in 1993 happened too long ago to prompt a murder prosecution under Danish law, police hoped the Catholic church would intervene and launch their own probe.

De Telegraaf reported that the Vatican authorities were warned about the abuse by another nun but did nothing to stop it.

Mother Brenninkmeijer was thought to be visiting another convent in Peru.
