MONTAGUE — The pastor of a western Massachusetts Roman Catholic church has been placed on leave while officials investigate an allegation that he violated the diocese’s code of conduct.

A spokesman for the Springfield Diocese says the complaint against the Rev. Charles DiMascola of Our Lady of Czestochowa parish in Turners Falls is not sexual in nature, but did not provide further details.

The code of conduct, which all clergy, staff and volunteers must sign, outlines what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior around children and adults.

The Republican of Springfield reports that DiMascola was placed on leave last week and parishioners were told during weekend services.

Parish council member Joyce Phillips says the parish stands behind DiMascola.
