HAVERHILL — The pastor of St. John the Baptist Church has been forced to resign and is being investigated for "financial improprieties."

Parishioners at today's morning Mass were told the Rev. Keith LeBlanc was removed as pastor at the Lincoln Avenue church last night.

He was escorted by Catholic Church officials to Philadelphia, where they are conducting an investigation, according to the announcement at today's Mass. An audit of finances at the church is being conducted, parishioners were told.

LeBlanc is a "late vocation" to the priesthood, having joined late in life after having a professional career. He previously worked as the spokesman for the now-defunct Bradford College.

Local police said today they are not involved in the investigation.

A complete report will appear in the Sunday Eagle-Tribune.
