The report into the handling of abuse allegations in Cloyne has been delayed.

The Commission of Investigation probe is now not expected until the end of October.

A damming report in 2008 found that child protection measures in the diocese of Cloyne were putting young children at risk.

It described practices there as inadequate and, in some respects, dangerous and led to Bishop John Magee stepping down from his duties.

The matter was referred to the Dublin Commission of Investigation, with its report was expected to be released over the summer.

However the report has been delayed due to "secretarial" issues regarding its release.

A meeting of priests in the diocese to prepare for its publication had been scheduled for Friday. It is not known whether that meeting will now go ahead.
