TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucsonan Frank Douglas is not happy with Pope Benedict's response to recent criticism of the Roman Catholic Church's failure to act quickly on reports of abuse of children by priests.

So Douglas took part Sunday in a nationwide effort called "Send the Bishop a Message," aimed at calling attention to the Pope's alleged coverup of an abusive priest's actions while he was a bishop.

Douglas asked parishioners outside two Tucson churches to donate a symbolic penny to "clean up the church's image." He and others called Catholics asking them to wear green to church on Sunday to show support for the effort.

Douglas said he solicited pennies Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 8560 N. Shannon Road and at St. Thomas the Apostle at 5150 N. Valley View Road
