CANTON — State Police on Monday arrested a priest from Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole on charges that he groped a 21-year-old man in the Blue Hills Reservation.

The Rev. Emile R. Boutin Jr., 46, of Walpole was charged with indecent assault and battery, police said.

The arrest followed a report by a 21-year-old man, who went to the State Police barracks in Milton and reported that he had been touched inappropriately in a wooded area behind the Route 138 Park and Ride lot.

The lot is bordered on three sides by the Blue Hills Reservation, parts of which are a wildlife conservation area.

The man told police that he pulled into the lot at 8:30 a.m. to find a place to relieve himself and was followed into the woods by another man.

He said the man, later identified as the Rev. Boutin, fondled him through his shorts, State Police said.

Police said the 21-year-old called police, who traced the license plate number to an address in Walpole. Boutin was identified by his driver's license photo, police said.

Terrence Donilon, a spokesman for the Boston archdiocese, said Boutin will not serve as a priest pending the outcome of the case.
