And when they do, it can be years, even decades, after the abuse. One case involved the sentencing hearing for John Denham, convicted only now of abusing 39 boys while a priest over 25 years ago. Another was the conviction of David Whitby for 119 acts of indecency with eight children, almost all of which he filmed. The acts occurred over a decade in four locations in south-west Sydney, but were only exposed a few years ago when one of Whitby's victims saw him filming her one-year-old sister, prompting her to tell her mother what had been going on.
