WE were reminded last week of the sad reality that children who are sexually abused often tell no one what has happened to them. And when they do, it can be years, even decades, after the abuse.

One case involved the sentencing hearing for John Denham, convicted only now of abusing 39 boys while a priest over 25 years ago. Another was the conviction of David Whitby for 119 acts of indecency with eight children, almost all of which he filmed.

The acts occurred over a decade in four locations in south-west Sydney, but were only exposed a few years ago when one of Whitby's victims saw him filming her one-year-old sister, prompting her to tell her mother what had been going on.
