  Priest with Ohio Valley Ties Arrested for Aggravated Sexual Battery of a Minor

Father Felix Owino worked as a Philosophy instructor at Wheeling Jesuit University, according to a news release.

WEIRTON -- A Priest of the Apostles of Jesus of Northampton, Pa. and an associate professor at Wheeling Jesuit University has been arrested on sexual battery charges of a minor.

Father Felix Owino, A.J., was arrested July 8 in Fairfax, Va. on charges of aggravated sexual battery of a minor. Owino is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center in Fairfax, Va., according to a news release from the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

Owino is a residence at St. Paul Perish in Weirton. He also served as an associate pastor at St. Paul's Perish.

Owino became part of the faculty at WJU in the fall of 2008. In a news release from WJU, the university states that Owino is not a member of the Jesuit order and has no responsibilities with the university and is not expected to return to the school.

As of June, Owino was not a part of the university and was on his summer break, according to the news release. The release also states that during his two years at WJU, campus authorities never received student complaints about his conduct.

Owino's trial is set for September, 2010. His priestly faculties within the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston have been suspended, according to the news release from the Diocese.
