The lesson here for victims is that even if criminal prosecution isn't successful, you can warn others and stop abuse by publicly exposing predators if you speak up. The lesson for governmental officials is that laws and policies must be reformed so that cunning child molesters can't easily exploit technicalities and walk free. The lesson for those who suspect or witness child sex crimes is come forward immediately to law enforcement and don't' let the burden of convicting a predator fall just one victim. We in SNAP aren't lawyers. We can't address whether US authorities did or should have withheld some documents from Swiss authorities. We can, however, stress that there are very likely other women who were assaulted as kids by Polanski. (Just two months ago, British actress Charlotte Lewis disclosed that Polanski tried to force himself on her just after her 16th birthday.) And there are likely others who saw or suspected crimes or misdeeds by Polanski. All of them should call law enforcement now. We must send a powerful signal that getting rich, making friends, fleeing justice and hiring lawyers won't enable child predators to get by with their horrific crimes.
