Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today the arrest of Patrick A. Umberger on charges of possession of child pornography. This arrest was the result of an investigation by a Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Patrick Umberger is in custody in the La Crosse County Jail. The Division of Criminal Investigation has referred the matter to the La Crosse County District Attorney for prosecution.
Citizens with further information about this matter are encouraged to call the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation Field Office at 715-839-3830 and reference the Umberger matter.
As this is an open an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released by this office until the availability of a Criminal Complaint. All questions about charging and prosecution may be directed to the La Crosse County District Attorney's Office.
A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence. The prosecution must prove its allegations at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
