A former Geneva Roman Catholic priest released from prison last week is again living in Crystal Lake.

Mark Campobello, 45, was convicted of sexually abusing two teenage girls. He worked as a priest at St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva and taught at Aurora Central Catholic High School.

Campobello’s sentence, including time served in prison and on parole, expired Wednesday at Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

According to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry, Campobello recently was listed as “compliant” and as a resident of Crystal Lake.

Campobello pleaded guilty in 2004 to abusing two teenage girls he taught at the high school while serving as a priest in Geneva. He was given a four-year prison sentence and was first placed on parole in February 2008.

He returned to prison twice for violating his parole, including most recently in April 2009.

He has been expelled from the Roman Catholic priesthood.

His victims, who were 14 and 15 years old at the time of the abuse, received a settlement of $2.2 million after they sued the Rockford Diocese.
