Strycharz

The Rev. Stan Strycharz fathered a child, the Diocese of Venice confirmed today.

Strycharz, who was head pastor at St. Leo Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, was placed on administrative leave July 23 by Bishop Frank Dewane.

A letter dated Aug. 3 from Richard and Maureen Schulze, co-chairpersons of the church's Making Room for More building campaign, sent to parishioners provides a statement made by Bishop Frank Dewane after the 10 a.m. July 25 Mass at St. Leo: “I don't know if Fr. Stan has ever talked to you, he does have a child and it's very much in this vein that my concerns are, and have been, and many of the faithful here in the parish have brought concerns to me.”

“He did say it,” said Diocese spokesman Bob Reddy.

The Diocese is reviewing complaints received from parishioners as to Strycharz’s breaking his vows of celibacy and obedience to the bishop as well as financial matters.
